A lot of homeowners really care for their lawns and spend a lot time tending to them. That means they give so much time in mowing, landscaping, and doing other lawn maintenance jobs to keep their lawns in great condition. But wouldn’t it be great if you just spend less time in your lawn and still maintain its beauty?
If you mow less, the most obvious result is that the grass would grow longer than usual. If you mow twice a week and cut it down to once a week, the grass would grow about two inches. But see, there is no significant difference in height, which is a good thing. And you also cut your mowing time by 50%.
Another great thing about letting the grass grows is that the roots tend to dig deeper. This means you got healthy grass in your lawn. Healthier grasses also means less maintenance, so letting your lawn grow will greatly cut down your mowing time in the long run and save you more money for maintenance costs.
You can also cut down your mowing time if you keep the blades of your lawn mower sharp. Sharp blades cut grass so effectively that there would no need to re-mow the lawn for a second pass. Also, well-kept blades lessen the instances where you have to manually pull out the grass that your mower passed, saving you your time as well as your energy.
The variety of grass you have in your lawn can also be factor on your mowing performance. Grass varieties that are native to your geographical location are much easier to tend to than those that aren’t. Foreign grass varieties would require a bit more of your usual attention if you want to keep your lawn in shape.
Lastly, do not overwater your grass and make sure you ventilate the soil. Overwatering hinders the growth of the roots and lack of ventilation renders the soil unhealthy. As mentioned earlier, deeper roots mean healthier grass. Proper ventilation of the soil helps maintain moisture, which greatly reduces the need to water often.
Less mowing does not equate to unattractive lawns. You just need to follow the tips mentioned in this article and you’ll be surprised of how much time you have in your hands. With less time spent on mowing you have more time to spend on doing something else. In that sense, you’ll be more productive in the process.
